A book to read: Linchpin

By: Jesse Orndorff|Posted in: Perspectives

I am big fan of Seth Godin. If you don’t know who Seth Godin is, you can visit his site here. Seth Godin is a marketing and leadership expert. He has written 12 books on the subject and all of them have been bestsellers. I just finished his latest book and there are a lot of great things, as leaders, we can take away from this book.

One of the things I love most about this book is that there are no lists, no top 10 things, or quick ways to become a leader. Look at what Seth has to say about it:

Telling people leadership is important is one thing.  Showing them step by step precisely how to be a leader is impossible.  ”Tell me what to do” is a nonsensial statement in this context.

There is no map.  No map to be a leader, no map to be an artist.  I’ve read hundreds of books about art (in all its forms) and how to do it , and not one has a clue about the map, because there isn’t one.”

Wow. Powerful statement. How often for our teams we try and create a road map for their success? How often do I find myself giving detailed instructions to people, when all they need is a chance to lead? My map won’t help, because, it doesn’t really help.

So what are you waiting for? Go get his book here.
